The Walsingham Estate lies in and around the historic village of Walsingham in North Norfolk, spanning the Stiffkey river valley. Walsingham as a whole consists of the two linked villages of Little and Great Walsingham which are about a mile apart.
The Estate manages a wide ranging mix of commercial and residential properties, with farms and woodland of around 5,000 acres.
Walsingham is blessed with a very high percentage of North Norfolk’s listed buildings and scheduled monuments. The ruins at Walsingham Abbey and the Friary (Greyfriars), as well as the historic Pump in the centre of Little Walsingham, are all Scheduled Monuments in the ownership and care of the Estate.
Walsingham Abbey is the site of the historic medieval Priory of Our Lady of Walsingham, and is both a historic and present place of pilgrimage. The Abbey Grounds and ruins, together with the Shirehall Museum, are open to visitors for most of the year, starting with the snowdrop season in late January and continuing through the rest of the year until the end of October.
The Abbey Grounds are especially renowned for the spectacular snowdrop displays which carpet the woodland surrounding the ruins in early spring.
